I had a beautiful 15hp 2stroke merc at one time and sold it like a dummy.I just found one on cl for $1500.It's a 2002 that has never been ran,not a drop of gas and oil in it ever.I would think $1250 to $1350 is fair for that motor.Any comments on this,if i pay $1500 for it i still think it may be worth it,anyone think that the $1500 is to much.Of course i will check it over with a fine comb.Does anyone know what the compression should be straight from the factory if it indeed it has not been ran? Thanks for any help.

Sounds like that could have been the price of it new. You didn't say if it was a tiller handle or have any remote start capabilities. Only you know in your gut if that is a deal to you. Others may have opinions but not a connection to such a motor as you say you have. But you should check the price out for a new one with factory warrantee and go from there...JMHO!

If you can afford it, buy it.

Even if you were to pay little extra for it, its new.

If ( IF ) you were to over pay by $250, and you keep the motor for 25 years, thats only $10 a year. Aren't you worth it?

You know the wife or girlfriend would have no problem paying an extra $500 to get the nicer sofa. :)

I paid $600 for an ugly '85 Evinrude 15 last year and felt it was a decent deal. There were people lining up behind me to buy it also. So for a much much newer shiny motor, that's probably a fair price.

Re: 15hp 2stroke merc price

Well i also found a 2012 15hp 2stroke merc but it's a long shaft,$1450.For some odd reason i had a 15hp 2stroke yamaha,by all means a great motor if not the best for 15hps besides the tohatsu i owned, but the 15hp merc i had was just so much more poweful on the top end.Same boat, load, weight etc....brand new 15hp yamaha at the time i got it,22mph which was good of course, then i just wanted to try a 15hp 2stroke merc for kicks,26.7mph loaded down.Shocked the heck out of me.Checked it 3 more times with 3 different gps's and it was over the 26mph mark everytime.I know the yamaha is 246 cc's and the merc is 262 cc's but will it make that much of a difference in the top end?Plus i have never had one issue with any merc i have bought, johnson, evinrude nothing but issues.I'm not saying their junk i'm just saying i must of got all the ones with issues.

All motors of today, major brands are just as good as the next,of course now tohatsu make 4stroke mercs/nissan up to 30hp,4stroke evinrudes up to 15hp so i guess we can say tohatsu must be a powerhouse as of now, well deserved to as they are awesome motors.
