I will buy a case of beer for the person who can figure this one out for me.
Who is up for a challenge. I have a 2000 15hp Evinrude 4-stroke that runs great but the rectifier and stator keep getting hot. This motor was given to me to work on because it didn't run, no spark. I replaced the stator and rectifier because they were both bad. After doing this, the motor runs great but the stator and rectifier both get hot. The plastic coating on the stator starts melting off. I am at the point where I don't know what to do. Everything I have done so far does not help the problem.

- Checked and cleaned all grounds
- Checked for shorts
- disconnected the ignition switch and ran
The only thing that made a difference is when I disconnected the red lead that goes from the rectifier to the starter solenoid, the rectifier didn't get hot but I am not sure about the stator.
