So I currently was out running motor at full throttle, then all of a sudden it sounded like the prop washed out. I could only run about 3 mph but when I would accelerate it would just rev up. I ended up finding out there was no spacer in behind prop so I pulled prop, and hub and replace seals and rubber o ring on hub put a spacer filled up lower unit oil. Took it out today started doing and same thing. Came home to find water in my lower unit again as well. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

A 1974 model or ???-----Pressure test the gearcase to find the leak.-----A complete seal kit is a good idea.----Including the shift rod o-ring.-----Check shift linkages for poor assembly / adjustment.-----Perhaps another prop.

It's a 1979. And thanks I'll look into that.

You didn't give us any history upon which to make decisions in an answer. On a bare propshaft, the "thrust" washer, usually tapered (ID) to have an "interference" fit on the prop shaft goes on first, then the prop then a locking device washer, then a locking device, then the nut.

If you want to check to see if the prop hub has failed, you scribe a line from the splines out to the outer casting. Run it, remove it and check your line. If still straight its not the prop, If not hub is slipping.

Lower unit problems and prop problems are two different things unless what you are telling us that your engine had no "thrust washer" and the prop ran up the shaft and engaged the rear carrier bearing assembly and ate into the prop shaft seal, causing lower unit problems.........
