Hi,

I recentley purchased what I beleive is a mid 90s Gamefisher 15 ss. The thing runs like a champ the problem I am having is when shifted in forward the throtle will not move much past where the "start" setting is. I have chased the problem back through the linkage.

There is a lock that engages to block the throttle from moving forwad when the motor is in Forward Gear. I beleive this is a safety mechanishm to keep the motor from overreving while in neutral and someone has missadjusted it so it falls in the forward gear.

Prior to tearing it apart and trying to adjust I am hoping I could get some advice from someone who may have more (which is almost any) experince with outboards.

My best,

Go "tear" into it and if you can't figure it out I will dig out my 15 hp and tell you what to do. It can't be that hard to adjust (if I remember right its just loosening a nut and turning a screw).
Good Luck

Re: 15hp Gamefisher shifter

Whoopbass,

Thank you. My main question was regarding the logic that the safety catch should keep you from turning the throttle to far in neutral and not be engaged in forward. This is how your motor works, correct?

I have had my challenges with linkages in the past. I once had to build some custom linkages for my 66 Bronco. My brain just does not work that way. What should have been a two hour job I turned into a two day job.

Thank you for your offer to look at your motor.

My best,

Don

That safety switch is so you don't start the outboard in gear and take off.

I took a look at my 15 hp Force (same motor as yours just a different label) and it looks like all you have to do is remove the phillips screw and washer and turn that plastic piece out. There is about 3/4" in travel when I shift from neutral to forward.

We've all had 2hr jobs that have taken 2 days. Makes you feel kinda stupid after you figure out what initially went wrong, but then there's those times when everything goes right and you feel pretty damn good when your finished.
