I am looking at a 1989 gamefisher 15hp. the guy wants 500.00 for it, my question is are these motors any good? I know it"s made by force and I heard that they are not the best of engines, any opinions? is it worth that much?

$500 is high, especially for an almost 25yo Force...

You're going to need to dump $30-50 of parts into it, plugs, fuel pump rebuilt and water pump impeller to make sure it's going to be dependable. Then there's the NLA ignition........

I have a 89 7.5 HP Force (Gamefisher) and it's been a good outboard, but when the ignition crapped out on it I had to spend $200 on an ignition upgrade. Standard Magneto can supposedly build the BIM coils (1/2 of the ignition) for $80-90, but I went with the full CDI upgrade for $200.

Also, if you can't work on it, I definitely wouldn't buy it as it could be tough finding a shop that will work on it.

that's what I thought, I usually stick with OMC, I have several older ones with coils and points, easy and cheap to repair.
