15hp merc peeing hot

This is the first small motor that I have owned..All my larger motors(150hp and up)when running would pee cool to warm but my 02 15hp merc pees pretty hot. I changed the impeller and lu lube when I first bought it. I just dont know if these smaller motors pee hotter than others..Also when at idle the water drips out pretty slow, doesn't pickup til underway.. I double checked the water tube to make sure it was connected correctly and it is..

Does your engine have double peeing ports, one to right side other at front upper middle leg, looking at engine from behind ? The first one is a water indicator to see pump is working ok, the second one with big hole is the exhaust indicator, if you put your hand on exiting water will feel intervals of warm/hot and cold exiting water, if so this is normal, shows thermostat is opening, closing and working properly. If exiting water is very hot thermostat is not working properly, change thermostat.

About the low water flow issue, you can introduce a piece of thin wire throught the peeing port upwards the haed to free salt crusts along the way which narrows the water passage, repeat procedure periodically, this should remedy the problem.

there is only 1 pee hole. I blew out the pee hose there was no resistance.. I will replace the tstat though.

On the 15HP the water from the telltale is coming from the thermosat housing is usually warm.
