Think the water pump is out. The tell tale pee hole is clear (blew air thru it) but I am not getting any water.

Replacing the pump should not be hard, but I have a question about the shift linkage. Where do I disconnect it? On my 150 it is under the carbs. I can't get under the carb on this thing.

Thought I read somewhere it is down inside where you split the lower unit.

Need a little help here please!!!!!

Thanks, ranger

Hi, Ranger.

I strongly suggest a Manual. We can help you use it, but we cannot be one.

Good luck. :)

JB,

If I had a manual I wouldn't be asking the question. I got my answer from someone else. Not my motor and no time for manual. If you don't have an answer no need to respond. Thanks anyway. :)

Re: 15hp water pump

Ranger
I really feel your post to JB is out of order. JB has done a lot more good on this board than you.
Second, How can someone help you and answer the question. You don't say if it is a 1901 motor or a 2003, You don't say if it is a sea king, Johnson, Honda, merc or what.

I know we are suppose to know or all motors from 1901 to 2003 and all brands are the same so you should already know.

Tell you friend to buy a manual, it will save time and money in the long run.

Re: 15hp water pump

I didn't mean to step on any toes. Some how my post got posted twice. More then likely my fault. On the first post I added that it was an 80's model evinrude.

I know that JB has been here from the begining and his front porch philosophy is usually right on the mark.

Enough said.

Ranger

Re: 15hp water pump

Maybe we all need to step back and take a breath.

OK.

Ranger....if your 15hp is a 1974 or newer Johnny or Rude, the shift rod link will be at the mating line of the lower unit to midsection. You will see it as the lower unit parts with the midsection. It will be a little easier if you shift into forwar to let the lower unit drop a little more. Remove the top bolt from the shift rod link and the lower unit will drop off. When you reassemble the lower unit to midsection, make sure the groove at the end of the upper shift rod aligns with the hole in the link before putting the bolt back in.

Do get a manual Ranger. Lots of good stuff in there. OEM is preffered. Good Luck!

Re: 15hp water pump

Thanks for the imput,

Lower unit is off and new parts are on the way. No blades left on this impeller! Like I said it is not my motor, but belongs to an old friend of mine. If I was going to do more extensive work on this thing I would invest in the manual. Trust me, I have manuals for all "MY" engines.

You also have to look at this from my angle. What if everyone responded with "I suggest you get a manual"? If we all had the manuals we would need this message board right? I try NOT to respond to posts unless I have something to contribute. Something helpful or maybe to show a different perspective.

Thanks again for all the advice.

Ranger

BF,

That looks great and it is on its way to the printer right now. Thanks!

By the way. In my earlier post I ment to say that if we all had manuals we "WOULDN'T" need this message board.

Thanks again, Ranger
