16' 1984 Alumacraft Jon Boat

I have a 16' 1984 Alumacraft Jon Boat there is no rating plate. I`m looking for a new motor but no sure what is a good size?

What size is it now? I have a 14' Lund semi V that is rated for a 35hp. I would think that Alumacraft would be somewhere around the same. Have you tried contacting Alumacraft with the hull ID number? They would be able to tell you exactly what the capacity of that boat is.

V hulls and Jon boats are rated VERY differently and it is also based on steering.

You would be safest contacting Alumacraft who are in business http://www.alumacraft.com/

That is correct and a quick review of their current models from their website shows that the 16' Jons are rated for a 30hp outboard.

The new boats are rated for that btu I woudl call them and ask as your boat is 26 years old.

Also remember that transoms age and get weaker over time so if you have never redone your transom it may not hold a 30, you should be able to put a good deal of your weight on the lower uit and have the transom not move more than 1/8''-1/4'', if it moves more than that you may want to rebuild it.

Tiller models. Didn't even look at the console models. No it doesn't state if that is for a 2 cycle or 4 cycle engine.
