Just recently started to restore our old 16 foot aluminum boat. It was previously used as a work boat. It has a 20 hp Johnson Seahorse o/b motor (Model: J20 CRL CRD) and was just wondering what would be the best way to get power for lights and possibly a cigarette lighter plug. Any help on what year or other information on the engine and suggestions would be appreciated as I am new to this forum and the whole restoration thing.

Thanks a lot!

J = Johnson
20 = HP
C = Canadian? not sure
R = rope start
L = long shaft
CR = 1984
D = nothing really.
Best of luck. Rick.
EDIT: just looked it up and it appears they never made a 20 hp in 84. Could the tag say 25 cause they did make a 25 that year.

Thanks for the quick reply! Here is a picture of the tag and the shroud (to prove I'm not crazy haha). Thanks again!

Power is going to come from a battery(deep cycle)for your electrical needs.

Try posting you model question on the repair forum. You might get a better response. I got to thinking the C is probably for commercial rather than Canadian. I still don't think they made a 20 that year though. Rick.

The "C" in the model number likely stands for "Commercial", which I believe means it used different components from the usual "recreational" models. Hence why that model HP may not be listed.

Edit, Sorry I miss read the previous post. And here I am thinking I came up with something useful.:facepalm:
