16 ft boat outboard 1979 envinrude steering cable?

i just took this boat out today and the steering cable broke. my question is are inboard, outboard cables the same and is the measurement from bow to stern? or from steering wheel to stern?any suggestion are appreciated
boat 1973 glasspar tri hull
motor evinrude 65 hp triumph outboard

Some use the same cable, is there a name on your cable or housing in the console.

i have thru engine tilt tube the cable that was there seemed way to long lot an lots of slack

no sure on the name. cable housing is donzo. all cracked up. ill look in the day light tomorrow for a housing name

If the housing is busted, it might be a good idea to get a kit and replace the complete system.
Look on the web site I posted, they should have a kit that will work for you.
