I have 16 ft ouachita boat and the deck needs replaced. I read so much on here now I'm confused, lol. The stringers look good just need new glass & the transom is good. If you look at the pics I haven't completely cut all the floor out yet. I'm scared to cut all the way to the haul so I was going to leave 5" all the way around and build the height up on the stringers to be flush with the remaining flooring. Then I was going to apply new flooring on top.

If I didn't want to go with carpet I would buy resin, glass & clothes. Sand it down and paint it?

The foam was soaked should I replace it or leave it out?

If it is wet it has got to go. Why do you say the stingers LOOK good? Have you drilled exploratory holes to test them? have your drilled the transom to test it? if the Foam is that Soaked I doubt the stringers and transom are good. You should remove the foam and drill to find out.

Ya, I checked the stringers and transom there good. I think what I'm going to do is just put a floor in and some marine carpet from Lowes in just to go out this year. When winter gets here I'll take the carpet out and the remaining old floor out. I need to read more about resin fiberglass vs epoxy because I want to have a deck where I can hose it off instead of carpet.

ERm..do you really want to encapsulate that much moisture under the floor like that ?

Remove anything thats wet then put down whatever you want and go have fun if your going to resto it better this winter..

I would not raise the stringers to match your floor..I would cleat your floor to match your stringers IMHO.

What's a good way to cut the wood out along the sides. That's what is making this so hard for me. There is only about 1/2 gap between the floor and the boat along the sides from front to back.

Well you could get really good, really quick with a sawzall, or you could get one of these nifty little tools from Harbor Freight for about $35. You will have to spend that much on blades also as they wear down fairly quick, but you will be able to get right up to the edge and can feel it going through the floor.
