I just rebuilt my 165 hp, 6 cylinder mercruiser. It is "surging". The motor idles perfectly, and it also starts perfectly. When the engine comes under load, its RPM's increase and decrease, someone called it "surging". Up around 3000 RPM's I am on plane, but the tach drops to about 2800 and then up to 3100. This is a constant thing. I changed the two fuel filters. There are three things I have yet to do....first, recheck the timing, second, replace the fuel pump, and third, have the carb cleaned. Anyone have any ideas? Also, I am wondering if the vaccuum advance needs to be hooked up after the point system has been changed to the electronic system. If so, does the vacuum advance port on the base of the distributor housing need to be connected to the port on the top of the manifold, or the one on top of the head. Thanks...
