Hi all,

I built a boat with a 15" transom (is that not supposed to be correct for a short shaft?)

I bought a Yamaha 15hp four stroke short shaft....and the cavitation plate is about 2 and a half inches below the bottom of the boat???? If I raise the motor up on the transom, the clamps will have nowhere to hold!.....what do I do now?

Is your 15" transom vertical, Rudderman, or is it angled?

The 15" measurement is vertical. Angled transoms are usually longer.

You can build the transom up a bit, or you can add an engine mounting plate that allows correct mounting.

Good luck. :)

Rudderman, a 15" transom is a compatable with a short shaft motor. If yours hangs down too low, it will affect performance somewhat, but you will not ventilate :)

I would put a piece of Wolmanized lumber under the motor bracket to raise it as much as you can such that the transom clamps still have a "full" bite. That should give reasonable performance.

I been runnin a 9.9 long shaft on a 13' runabout with a 15" transom for several years with no problems even though it is against the "rules".

There are 15" mids available but as was suggested above, I'd raise the transom.

c/6
Hooty
