175 Evinrude to 200 Johnson swap

Hi all - I'm about to swap out a 1988 175 Evinrude (e175tlccm) with a 1999 Johnson 200 (j200pleen). The guy I got the 200 from told me that the Evinrude controls will work with this motor if I buy an adapter? for about $35 from a Johnson dealer. Before I get into this - does anybody have an idea what he's talking about? TIA for any help .....

they throttle and shift cables will work, Just plug and play. the wiring harnesses ends are different, the 88 has a single big red plug, the 99 has multiple plugs. the adapters is a "pigtail" one side has the big red plug, the other the multiple plugs. besure to get the correct adapter. as there are 2 one that convert older control to newer motor, and new control to older motor.
