I WOULD APPRECIATE SOME HELP WITH THIS ISSUE, I AM GETTING A LITTLE FRUSTRATED WITH MY NEW TO ME BOAT. ANY HELP WOULD BE APRRECIATED! DON'T KNOW A LOT ABOUT 2 STROKES, BUT CAN ANSWER QUESTIONS ABOUT AUTOMOBILE ENGINES... I Replaced The Powerhead On My Johnson Faststrike 175 1996 Year Model With A 2001 Powerhead. Everything Was Ok For The First 3 Hours Of Break In Time. Last Time Out, Cranked Engine And Let Warm Up, When I Went To Take Off, It Was Bucking & Would Not Accelerate Over 25oo Rpm...when I Put It Back In Neutral, It Would Die. Spoke With Person Who Had Sold Me The '01 Powerhead And He Said The Temp Sensor On The Port Side Was Probably Malfunctioning. Replaced Sensor & Now Engine Does Not Buck, But Will Not Idle And When In Gear Will Not Go Over 2500 Rpm. However, If You Rev Up The Engine In Neutral, It Will Rev Up Normally. Question: Is There A Reset Procedure That I Need To Do After Sensor Replacement, Or Does It Sound Like Another Issue? I Am Truly Disappointed With My First "nice" Bass Boat Purchase...

With the engine on muffs or in the water pull off one plug wire at a time. See if the RPM will change. If you pull one and the rpm does not change thats your problem.Sounds like its not hitting on all the cylinders. After that move to the carb make sure they are clean. If so move to the fuel pump. I would say 80 percent of the time its a electrical problem.
