Hello,

I have a 175 Ram Ficht , model E175FPLSSR, serial #4790896.

I experienced the following symptoms on my Engine.
Once and a while the alarm buzzer sounds and the check engine light comes on.
I have had the dealer read the engine and the stored codes are 42 and 41. It has a relation with the water temperature meter he said, but he could not determine what has to be replaced.

I believe it has a relation with the fact that my recently installed new plugs fauled in only 1 hour of use, after cruising at a low rpm level for a while. I believe it gets too much oil; and I believe there is a relation with the check engine problem.

Can you help me to determine what has to be replaced?? I bought the engine at 88 hours of use. The previous owner never experienced problems. It ran great when I bought it. I really love this engine !!

I would greatly appreciate your reply

Re: 175 Ficht ram watersensor trouble

Error code 37 is "water in the fuel filter", 41 and 42 mean that the water temperature sender on the port cylinder head malfunctioned (below minimum spec) or that the wiring shorted somewhere.

There is an exhaust backpressure sensor on your 2000 motor that is on the lower right side of the engine block, follow the hose from the "computer box" down to where it goes into the motor. Remove the sensor tube and make sure it is not plugged up with carbon. That affects low speed operation of the engine.

To DHPMARINE: You mean the water seperator situated in front of the block? I was referring to the water temperature meter/valve, codes 41 and 42. The fuel filter is OK. There is no water in the filter. Engine readout says the fuel sensor is ok.

Re: 175 Ficht ram watersensor trouble

To seahorse:
I have checked and there are no problems with the exhaust backpressure sensor. Should I replace the water temp sensor (pink en black connected).

Can you confirm that a defect water temp sensor on the port side can result in plug fouling and rpm-changes (up and down) when in neutral during this check engine mode (red light) ? When the red light goes back to normal, the engine runs normal in neutral.

Re: 175 Ficht ram watersensor trouble

To all who read this:

The problem was traced to an internal open in the EMM. I ordered a rebuild at DFI electronics. I am currently awaiting the rebuild EMM. My problems should be over now.

I thank everyone for their reply on this topic. It is greatly appreciated !!
