Hi I am new to the forum. Looks like a great forum with lots of great information..

I have a 98 175 Merc and the trim will not trim up some times. If I wait a few minutes it goes back trimming up. When this happens it will always still trim down.

Thanks in advance for the help.

I just got back into an out board after having stern drives for the past twenty years

Intermittent trim switch or solenoid. If there's more than one set of trim switches, does the other switch work?

If it does, you have a bad switch or wire to it. If it doesn't, the solenoid may be intermittent.

hope it helps

Re: 175 Tilt problems

Thanks for your response.

Yes it has two trim switches. One on the gear leaver and one on the motor.

Both are not working in the up position. Now next question.

If it is a solenoid, where is is located???

That motor probably has relays. They are used with a two wire trim motor. The relays are under the cowling, usually near the starter solenoid.
