Re: 176214 prop

That p/n is an OMC prop number and in my opinion is a decent prop for your Johnson engine.I feel your engine should get better than 5000 rpm with an average load aboard that rig being pushed by a 115 driving a 14X17 prop. Before changing to a lower pitch prop I suggest that you insure that your engine is mounted to its optimal height on the boat transom. An engine mounted too low without a jackplate to compensate can be robbed of sometimes several hundred rpms.Engine lower unit anti-ventilation plate should be roughly level with or slightly above the boat pad when trimmed down.Basically you'd like to get it as high as possible without experiencing excessive ventilation while executing tight turns at 3/4 throttle on plane.

Get the height right

Get the height right

If the motor is all the way down, then it probably needs to be raised up a hole or two at least.

With the boat on the trailer, trim the motor until the A/V plate is at a level attitude with the boat. The A/V plate should be slightly above the bottom of the boat, if it is not, then your motor is sitting too low and should be raised up. If you have a water pressure gauge, then you can continue to move it upward until you start to decline in pressure.

Setting the boat up properly will greatly improve the performance and fuel economy, you could potentially pick up a few hundred RPMs and several MPH to boot, not to mention a couple MPGs as well.

There are cosmetic covers over your top holes on your transom bracket. Slots are on the bottom. There should be 4 bolts holding your motor on . 2 in the top holes and 2 in the slots.
