18 ft boat 15 ft trailer

I was offered for free this boat with title about an hoour or so away from me but I have to use my own trailer . I originally just wanted the horns and spotlight and all the 50's style gauges for my other boat but it looks in pretty good shape and I have a friend that restores wooden boats and will prolly give him the boat. Here is the thing

I have a trailer that is 15 with smaller size tires. the boat is wooden and 18 ft
so that is like 3-4 feet hanging over would that be ok if I cruised around 60 and took it easy? just for the trip back . I realize this isn't preferable but my options are limited.

borrow a bigger trailer, that boat is heavy. you could very possibly, break several rib, hanging it off the back. i did do something like this several years ago, i use a Jet Ski trailer to haul a light aluminum boat, 150 miles. what i did, is attach some 2x4's the the side of the existing bunks, and they extended out to the transom of the boat. the bow weight help to support the stern, but the trailer was tougue light.

not a good idea, definitely borrow a bigger trailer. to many bottom feeder attorneys out there. they live for thing like this if something happens.

Well I am gonna attach some elongated bunks ( 2 by 6's) and move the winch up a foot and a half. I am gonna follow my friend so I am the only one behind him, then if anything happened it wouldn't be insurance fraud! Just kidding.
To good a deal to pass up though (free is always the best price), just gonna take it slow and stay off the interstate. Wish me luck, and say a prayer. I'll post pix tomorrow, good bad ,or ugly. No guts ,no glory! Also gonna ratchet strap the crap out of the bow. How heavy you think that boat might be? How much heavier than say a fiberglass boat of the same length?

be sure your tires are air up the the max recommended pressure.

Elongating your bunks will not displace enough weight for that wooden boat. Borrow or rent a bigger one. Don't take a chance, you have to far to go to get that rig home.

I would go for it, tie a orange flag to the stern. I've seen worse contraptions going down the highway, you'll know if your trailer can handle it or not real quick, having your buddy follow you (one quick maneuver behind) is a very good idea.

Made the trip with ease! The boat wasn't as heavy as you'd think. 120 miles no probs at 60 mph. 80mph problems! 60 mph no prob

For free !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!ha it towed great~
