18 ft repower

anyone know if you can replace a 140 4cyl with a small v8. Already doing full restore on stringer floor transom etc. What decides what weight a boat can hold? seen lots of other 18ft 76in beams using v8 power. Any ideas on the subject?

As long as you have the space in the boat, and the outdrive can handle the additional power/torque, then it can be done. It just matters if the difference in weight is exponentially more than the 4cyl set up.

If you find that there are identical boats with 8's in them, then it was just a matter of what the manufacturer of your boat was trying to accomplish with a performance/price point.

Outdrive must be replaced or re-geared....... unless you have a full donor boat and the mechanical ability plus tools..... it is just a dream at this point.
