18 HP Johnson wont go foward

Tried starting the 1965 18 HP Johnson SeaHorse for the second time today and got it started after a while. Shifted the gear shifter into what should be foward, but it wouldnt actually kick in to foward. Reverse and neutral would work, but foward wouldnt. Any advice??

Pop the little side cover open and see if the shifter connector is aligned properly. If the bolts come out stripped...it will not have been aligned properly.<br /><br />TMD
