18 SS or 22 Holiday?

Since the big ss seems so hard to find, I started wondering which boat would actully be more roomy, an 18' SS with it's open bow or a 22' Holiday. I know the Holiday is a closed bow, but the bow doesn't really seem to take up too much space. Also, I wonder, does the 22 footer have the same or wider beam as the 18?

Hmmm, interesting thoughts.

Can we get a reminder of what you are using this boat for? Fishing, skiing, cruising, racing, scuba.....

And, how many people are we haulin?

The 4 extra feet is a big difference, no doubt. But the closed bow is a big difference too.

I think the answer to your use question would also answer what kind of boat you ought to be driven, eh!:)

I bought a 22' Holiday and intend to convert it into a CC. I will also cut out a portion of the closed bow, leaving enough room for a trolling motor and nav lights. I have not put a tape to it, but after gutting the interior, I know that boat is absolutely huge.

All that said, Jas is on the right track in that it makes sense to determine your boat choice based on what you intend to use the boat for.

good point.... It'll be an all around family boat.... wife and three kids.... maybe take a couple others as well. some tubing, some fishing. I just love starcraft boats for their people capacity for the size! Love the way it translates to engine efficiency as well. More boat.... less weight.

I think the perfect boat then for you is a 22' SS. I may be slightly biased though. Keep your eyes peeled!!

Yes sir a 22' SS would certainly fit the bill! They seem to be pretty rare, though. Is that what you have dj?

Go 22'. These boats float so nicely, and maneuver so well you'll love the 22. I took a 22' Islander and converted it to a CC. It's an awesome rig. I can go anywhere. It floats so well I'm not limited at all. We fish for everything from it.

Yah, if you are wanting a family fun and fish boat, open bow is what you'll want. 18' would be comfortable and 22' even more so.

I'd say hold out and keep looking;)

Read through your resto thread..... Man, that was a remanufacture, not a restoration!! Great work, Dave!
