ok here be the story

we rebuilt the motor and probally have about 4-5 hours on it since its first sucessful water test....so the last time we had it out warmet it up came out of the no wake zone and she came up to speed no prob. running really good, then after abotu 10 min or wot (right now she turns 4xxx) i noticed a 200 rpm drop. i tried to adjust the trim but didnt seem to make a defferance. We went to the end of the lake throtled down to just above idle talked to a frind that was out there as well then went back full throttle and she only reved up to 3000 rpm, she sounded like she was bogged down a few min later i heard a ticking so we shut her down. I forgot to mention that it did warm up a little to like 185-190 (before if it did this we throttled down and it cooled back to 165 and we could throtlw back up after running hard for a wile it would slowly warm back up

-idle speed is a litle low...in gear on water it is about 450 rpm
-was still holding 30 psi oil pressure @ just above idle
-the tick was coming for top end of motor (not a rod knocking or hollow sounding)
-i check the fuel tank to see if it was venting...it is
-i check the fuel filter (the only one is right there at the carb) and cleared it only had a small amount in the bottom
have not put a ful pressure guage on it yet as i have to get into town and buy one
does this sound like a lean issue? timming issue (maybe slipped on me)
any other idea that could cause this?

thanks for your help in advance

Ayuh,... Sure does,...

The ticking is Detonation....
It could be as simple as water in yer fuel...

Re: 181 wil loss of rpm after been on the watewr for a bit?

how would i put a fuel pressure guage on this set up? it has a steel line running from the pump. should i just pull line off, drill hole in it tap it for guage install guage and leave it or should i replace said steel line it a rubber line and put guage in that?

should i double check the timming with it on the water or would the muffs be good? 6* btdc correct?

Re: 181 wil loss of rpm after been on the watewr for a bit?

i know i am restarting this thread but i might have found something........

so i went out to "play with the stubbern gal" to see if i could figure something out,sop i have done
- pulled steal fuel line off (temp) and put a rubber one on to put fuel pressure guage on (7psi wile attempting to start)
- replaced starter sylenoid
went to start it but wopuld not fire
- pulled #1 plug and wire, put plug back in wire, grounded on motor (pulling eye) to check spark, nothing
- pulled wire coming out of coil to dist did the old srewdriver check, srewdriver in the end of the wire and attempt to jump a arc.....nothing
- using a test light i know i have power coming in and ground on the other side, i did notice that the power side, the light was not as bright as not ground side

first train of though....replace the coilas i did and check for spark again and still nothing

what gives??? please help as iam lost here
