Was looking to repower my 18ft 1976 18ft starcraft. I can get a good deal on a 4 stroke mercury 60hp is that gonna be underpowered? I know a 70 or 90 would be ideal but cant beat the deal for the 60.

I don't think you would be very happy with the 60. The 18 SS I sold with the 90 Yamaha the fellow that bought it repowered it with a 120.

Maybe if the 4-stroke 60 is a huge DEAL, buy it, clean it up, tune-up maybe & Sell it HIGH for a 90-140hp :)

The 60 would be perfect as long as there was 2 of em to hang back there

What is hanging off the stern now? Two 60 4 strokes are a lot of weight - 500 lbs or more.

I have a 70 2 stroke hanging off the back right now and it's plenty of power. I just duck hunt and fish with the boat

I had a 18 starcraft with a 70 hp myself some years back, 32 mph wot, plenty enough for us. However the 60 you are looking at is a 4 stroke rather than a two stroke, you will find a big lack of performance in that 4 stroke when compared to your 2 stroke. With the extra weight and lack of performance you will be lucky to see 25 mph. However if this is all you need then go for it, you will certainly enjoy the added fuel economy....
