Cant seem to get my brothers boat on plane with six people in it he just bought the boat so he called the previous owner they said we had to much weight in the boat so we cut back to three people about 450lbs and it worked is there a problem? this boat seats six with a cutty

What is the prop pitch. Could be overpitched. Marine growth on the bottom could also cause it.

I left him and the boat at camp when we bought the boat it had a new prop and lower unit on it but the owner said it always was like that would not carry anymore than 3 people ,no weeds where the boat is just rocks at about 6ft

the boat has a 4.3 v6 not sure what hp is 175?

Critter, The 4.3 V6 had horsepower ratings from 175 through 205HP for the 4bbl carb and MPI. Different years of the Alpha 1 outdrive have different gear ratios. My 19' SeaRay bowrider with the 4.3LX (205HP) will plane the boat with 6+ adults and some kids. Of course in my bowrider, I can arrange them to balance the load.d I run a 21" pitch SS Rapture. I suspect your prop has too much pitch. Why not buy a 2-4" lower pitch prop for a spare, or arrange to borrow props with 2 and 4" less pitch than the one you have.

Of couse, the other issue is whether the motor is making its full power. That is the subject of a whole 'nother forum.d
