Got a really good deal on a 1928 4hp Elto in great shape(for 91 years old). I just have never run one , and know it needs a 6vlt battery. The wires are not marked in any way, so is there a +/- wire or doesn't it matter?

Since that's one I've never worked on...... Why is a battery needed... isn't it a magneto ignition system?

No sir, just a coil battery system. Buzz box is what they call it. Hook battery up, powers coil. Then there is a point type system under the flywheel that opens and closes to send charge from coil to the spark plug. this one has the coil on the motor(Model T style).

Okay... I am old enough to be familiar with the "buzzing" coil system of the Ford Model T so I understand what you're saying. Yeah, that would raise a polarity question as Ford, for ,many years used "Battery Positive" as the ground connection on their autos.

From what I have read this morning, in this type of set up polarity doesn't seem to matter.
