My Pal will only run a few seconds the stop. It has 60 psi compression, the spark will jump a .090 gap and I have checked the lift on the poppet valve. I put the Pal carb on a 2 hp sportsman and the engine ran fine. I put the Sportsman carb on the Pal and I have the same no run problem. What have I missed checking?

Spark sounds a little on the weak side. Check plug wires, condenser, etc. Might run some decarb through it, too, as the heavy oil mxes they ran back in the day resulted in lots of carbon build up, particularly in the exhaust cavity.

Thanks, I have to get it running to use the decarb, .090 is about 3 times the normal gap of .030.

Spark should jump 1/4 inch or better to be considered strong. Spark under compression is different than spark in normal atmosphere. Higher resistance, so weak spark is exposed.

I agree with Chinewalker 100% on the spark issue. I've been burned on this before with a motor not starting.
