Just picked up a sweet little seahorse this weekend. Had a few questions to get it running right.

1) Is the carb supposed to have a little hole in the bottom just behind the butterfly? It almost looks like a screw should be there, as of right now its just open to air.
2) Did these carbs not have filters, just the silver thing with holes?
3) Whats the proper procedure for starting these? Should I lean it all the way down or mid way, venting gas tank, etc?
4) What is that little spinning lever on the right side of the motor opposite from the carb, long skinny thing with a bend about 4" down? Must adjust something.
5) How do I pull the lower unit to inspect the impeller as I'm sure it needs to be replaced.

I pulled the carb and cleaned it out just like I normally would with a motorcycle carb. I replaced the float with a wine cork of similar size and got new spark plugs as this still had the J-6J plugs. It fired up on the first pull and ran for about 10 seconds then died, not bad I suppose.

Thanks for any help, I'll keep looking around the forum to see if I can come across some of these answers.

1. Yes, hole is supposed to be there
2. No air filter
3. Turn on fuel from tank, press primer 3 or time, throttle lever on start, pull rope.
4. You mean on front of motor? Low speed mixture adjustment. Normal opening 5/8" turn. Adjust from there for best idle. It is very sensitive, so don't spin it 'round and 'round
5. That takes some typing to explain. Basics are drain the oil (!!!). Disconnect clutch cable at lever & remove curved pipe. Remove gearcase. Remove the 1/4" thick plate above gearcase. Clutch cable will come down with it. Water pump is on top of that plate.
