I have recently acquired a seabee and have tried to get it running but when I pull the pull rope the flywheel doesn't catch on the dogs and it just slips. Any ideas how to fix this? I have tried taking it off re aligning it and trying again but it. will not catch

Probably assembled wrong. Most people do on the first one. And second, and.....
The equalizer spring must be pre-assembled up onto the raised shoulder of the center spindle before inserting the spindle into the pulley.

If this is not your starter, but you have the other kind, are the pawl springs there?

I looked into it further and have figured out it is the 1947 5hp version, the problem is when i place the separate part that has the recoil over the top of the part with the dogs it slips after one pull then will not catch, there are no springs on it,should there be?

They are outrageously expensive if you buy ready-made ones.

Thanks I'll give that a shot, also one of the ignition coils are bad and I can't find a similar model anywhere. Does anyone have a clue where I could get one otherwise I'm gonna have to "customize" a similar one
