guys I have an extra 53 but it needs some guts....coil, carb wires and such.....it has really good compression and is in great condition....my question is this...what should i do with it.....sell it as is, or try to get it going...i have a mint running 53 that was my dads that has been rebuilt and now is on my 14 foot....the motor that needs some things is the motor that the guy who rebuilt my running motor already had....found him on kijiji and he was selling it but since i went to him for the rebuild he gave me this other one too ....i know the parts that are missing came off of this and went on my running motor....other than the carb that i bought I had it changed to a 54 solid carb rather than the glass bowl 53....rather than just buy the non running evinrude that was on kijiji i just had the running one rebuilt....since it was my dads and used it when i was a kid, i wanted to get it going so some parts as i said came off the other one.....it runs well and is strong i just think it needs some fine tuning...24:1 fuel mixture but not quite dialed in on the high and low....i also have the original tanks ...i have dads original tank that i currently use...and the one for the other non running 53....run a day or something like that (5 gallon) both excellent shape......any thoughts fw53

The parts motor in its condition is not worth much. More to you as parts if you need them. I would just keep it.

I have 2 53 Fastwins that are in various states of being put back together. Just cant find time to get around to them.

I think I would hang on to my spare parts supply, FW53, and spare tanks, too. They are like an insurance policy.

Good luck. :)

Yea, I would hang on to the spare myself. You never know when you're going to need something. These old 15's were great motors, but they're approaching 60 years old now. Parts are getting harder to find.

What all do you need for it?

You might hit up HighTrim for some parts. If nothing else, look in the Top Secret File in the Salvage Yards ;)
