Anyone know where I can get gaskets for the carburetor for this motor. It has a MD24A Tillotson carburetor. I'm looking for the idle tube fiber washer and the carburetor body gasket. The idle tube washers are so small I can't make one with my gasket making tool. (ps Scott Guy does not have them). I probably could make the body gasket but I'd like to have a nice factory cut one. I've done an internet search and nothing!

Re: 1953 Firestone 5 HP

F_R: Thanks! Larson had the gasket kit and the illusive micro-size idle tube gasket (and really reasonable also). I just wonder how many of these Scott and Scott cousins like the Firestone won't run due to this small gasket being missing. If you take the tube out and are not aware of the gasket,a shot of compressed air will leave you wondering why. It's been ordered and I'll let you know how this and my 1961 3.6 Scotty run when I get them. Thanks again!

Re: 1953 Firestone 5 HP

Received the parts from Larson and after some carb adjustment she is running fairly well. Only problem is that she doesn't run more than a few minutes and than shuts down. I did set the float level to the best of my ability but I notice gas leaking out the mouth of the carburetor when it's sitting and starting the motor is erratic. I think I'm going to put this one back in the shed and save it for another day. These Tillotson carburetors are headaches. I was also hoping to get the 3.6 Scotty running but the idle tube diameter is different (slightly thicker) than on the earlier Firestone. The idle tube gaskets for the 53 Firestone will not fit on the idle tube of the 61 Scotty. Who would have thought? Anyway I'm hoping Larson has the idle tube gasket for the motor and at least I'll get one running. Thanks again F_R!
