Bought a model 7512 1953 7.5 Hp Evinrude Fleetwin on Ebay. Picked up the motor and was able to run it in a barrel with no problems. Took it to the lake and of course had problems. Was anticipating murphy's law so luckily stayed close to shore. Problem: carburator I'm sure needs cleaning and adjusting but I'm not sure if the rebuild kits that I can find for years 1955-1958 are compatible with the 1953. The seals in the lower unit are also bad and I need to know if anyone can tell me if the seal kits from 1955-1958 will work as well. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Just seaching through this forum before I even picked up the motor has saved me a ton of time and questions already. Thanks :)

Hey Steam_mill,
The Lower clutch rod seal on mine is out. Filled up the gear case before going out and when I got home it was empty. Can't seem to get the lower clutch rod out either. I think I just need to pull it harder through the seal will let you know.
Thanks

Worked on it a little last night and was able to get the lower clutch rod disconnected from the gear case. It was connected by the clutch swing plate in the gear case(turn it clockwise after removing big jesus clip). The clutch rod is slightly curved towards the bottom. Does anyone know if this is supposed to be curved or straight? The main drive shaft seal is bad as well. I've emailed twincity earlier in the week and a couple other OMC dealers for parts compatibility with the 55' through 58' models but still haven't received a reply.

Took off the flywheel, I can't believe it started when I first got it home. Both coils are cracked beyond beleif. Getting the gear case seal kit; carb kit and coils on next Wed. Have a 20 mile canoe trip pre-scheduled for Saturday.... Keeping my fingers crossed.

Try Sea Way at 206-937-7373. The clutch rod should be straight.

Re: 1953 Model 7512 Fleetwin 7.5 HP Evinrude

Well, Got the parts on thursday. The lower unit seal kit the I ordered for a 55'-58' weren't compatible with the 53' I was able to find o-rings from the auto parts store that worked for the lower clutch rod seal but i haven't found a suitable replacement for the lower drive shaft seal yet. I replaced both coils and sanded and gapped the points, since iboats didn't have them is stock. I wasn't able to get the carburator rebuilt before the canoe trip Saturday because the pull rope broke and when I put on a replacement i didn't tighten the mounting screw down enough so the whole retraction mechanism puked all over the inside of the engine. Lucky me, that was the only page I didn't copy out of the manual from the library. So by the time i figured out how to rebuild that nightmare it was 2 am and we were leaving that morning for the trip. So
I got it to start tuned the carb as best as i could and off we went. The only problem was getting it to idle at very low speeds. Girlfriend still caught a nice size white bass and a small largemouth trolling pretty fast though. Had a wonderful trip and just want to say this website is great and thanks to all that answered my questions and answering everyone elses questions about the 7512 7.5 evinrude motor. Going again after it cools down THANKS!!!!!

Hey I have the same motor and the clutch does not engage the prop. Since you have had all of this apart I thought you might have an idea as to what the problem might be.
