Things went so well with the two 7.5hp Evinrudes I rebuilt/repaired this year that I decided to complicate my life with a 1954 Evinrude 25 hp Electric.

I understand that the choke solenoids on these motors can be troublesome. Does anyone have any wisedom they can share regarding these? Are there any parts in it that I should replace when I rebuild the carburetor? I have a late 50's OMC shop manual, but I'd like some "real world" advice if there is any.

Thanks.

No trouble with them that I know of, except trying to run them on 12v. The newer 12v motors used similar chokes for a bunch of years with good success.

only prob I have seen is the tab you bolt the "hot" wire to breaks loose, I remove it and hook (solder) a wire to the wire that sticks out to attach to the tab.

Thanks a lot guys,

The resistor info is priceless. I was wondering how to run this motor on 12V.

Now I just have to get this stubborn flywheel off.
