any1 know how to adjust the shift linkage on my motor. Its making a bang and i want to try to adjust b4 i try to learn how to turn the clutch dog around. no mechanic so a very simple explination of where and how to do this would be great. Thanks

If it feels like you're hitting a log when it bangs then you're in trouble. It's usually the clutch dog. You can try adjusting it. On the later 10's it's behind and below the shift lever, not sure about the '54 though. Others will weigh in though.

you got it spot on the 1st few times it did it i thought i hit something but couldent find it wasent until it did it twice in 120 fow that i knew for sure i prey that its the linkage and ill try to find it but its probobly the clutch dog. info on how and where to deal with bith linkage and cluch dog would be great

Have you considered getting a Service Manual, Anarchy? That is what they are for.

Its seldom as easy as adjusting the linkage. Sounds like the clutch dog is shot. Turning it around may not work as the dog may be damaged on both ends or the gears may be damaged as well. Get a manual and post back.
