hey guys i have a 1954-1955 Elgin outboard 5.5hp. i want to sell to get rid of it but i have no idea how much to sell it for... its a pull string start and still has the string. when you pull it it has resistance so i assume it would run with a little work. if you have any idea how much it would be worth please let me know.

Re: 1955 Elgin 5.5hp

maybe i read the rules wrong......but is asking what something is worth, breaking them? i have seen many similar posts???

rebel, without knowing the general condition of the motor, its impossible to offer thoughts on what you may be able to pass that motor along for. (on other sites of course....ebay, craigslist etc)

....or did i read the "edit" wrong?

To about 99% of the people out there looking for a motor, it is worth "O" if it won't start up and run, in a moment's notice. Not many in these current economic times are looking for project motors, unless they can get it for pennies on the dollar. Doing a simple points cleaning and flushing out the carb may be all you need to do, to make it run and I would highly recemend that, if you're trying to sell it.

Re: 1955 Elgin 5.5hp

I have an old 60's 18 hp commodor, made by West Bend. I am trying to drop the lower unit to inspect the impeller on the water pump that does not seem to be working. I have removed the four bolts, unhoked the linkage to the shifter, it is loose but will not drop down. Any suggestions?
