I recently got a 1955 7.5hp Evinrude model 7518 (Basically raised it from the dead). She is running pretty good. But would like for her to idle just a little lower.

Back ground stuff.
Changed whole ignition, new Champion J6C plugs, carb kit (float is level and it is the original), replace the pinion clutch assembly (shock absorber), impeller and replaced the fuel and manifold(air hose) on the engine.. Have a good sound and functional pressure tank and the female connector to motor is repair and full functional without leaking.

Big Question:

Their is a leak coming from the carburetor. What can be causing this and or is this normal?(doubt it but just asking).

The icon is a picture of where the carb is leaking. The area is called filter outlet screw plug. It there a way to seal it, even though it is screwed in snug. Have you seen this before?

Click on the icon for a big picture....sorry a little off focus.

Thanks for any help!!!!

Here is a picture of the motor. (lightly cleaned)

It's a vent, you are getting gas coming out which you shouldn't , leads me to believe something was installed wrong or missing:

Make sure #60 flipped the right way (can't see it not being) around and that #70 boss gasket is installed, I've missed that one before, created an airtight seal for the carb bowl. Or you have a blockage somewhere in the carb still.

Looked at mine, it has it, never leaked.

I know the boss gasket is there for sure and the gasket is on correctly. The float is the original and may not be 100%(might be partially soaked down and barely functional). Will still recheck the things you mentioned and replaced the float with the one the came in the kit...was trying to keep the kit float for another project.

My thinking it may allow too much fuel in and flood and it is draining out. (Well, that's my stupid theory!!) I'll let you know tomorrow!!!

Again.....thanks for your help and trouble BTK!!!

Oh, saw your QD23 video.....cool job dude!!!!

I'd pitch that float for the grief factor, cork floats were great back in 1960, today's gas eats them for breakfast, just pick another one up. Ya the qd-23, that was the score of the year, can't wait to run it with a new vid.

BeTheKing,

I think it is leaking from the screw #63(in the diagram you supplied) and not hole above. Connected the tank and filled the bowl and it slowly started leaking. So Propnutt suggested a bit of loctite on the thread of #63. So, I did just that and will let it cure tonight and try it out in the morning. Hope it works. I wonder why it it started leaking....the threads are not damaged on screw #63. Oh well, we will see in the morning!!!

Thanks again for your suggestions and help!!!

I guess your arrow was misleading, I have seen instances where carb's will leak from holes that are meant for venting, I guess you will know tomorrow.

Not your fault... I'm the dumb azz that can't figure out where it's leaking and can't seem to draw an arrow(yes it's my fault). Sorry dude.....

Always appreciate your help.....I complicate things all on my own!

I'd like to see the video of that boat run. The lakes in your are very nice and the landscape and wooded areas are nice as well. Bet you and your family enjoy ridding around the area in the boat.

cheers

I love our lake, it's huge and the fishing is decent. It's all about time, our lives have become too busy to enjoy the finer things in life, boating, next year I plan on doing more of it!
