Hi,
I've gotten my 1955 Fastwin 15HP running pretty well...but I still think I need to do better. The PO rebuilt the carb and I have found a couple of things that he did wrong so I keep delving deeper. I notice on the parts diagram that there is a washer (Part #78) that sets behind the 2 packing rings on the slow speed needle. My engine has no such washer.
My question is then: What type of washer is this? Brass? Fiber? It looks so much larger in the illustration compared to the packing...but it actually is the same diameter so as to fit down in on top of the packing?
Does it need to be there? Obviously it serves a purpose but I do notice that the carb pictured on the 7.5 HP motors don't show the washer.
I think that the slow-speed needle area of these carbs is the trickiest part to get right. Removing the old packing without getting pieces of it down by the seat can be challenging....I can see why some of posters here just leave them in and add a third....
Thanks, Chuck
