Been working on this one for about a year. Turned out pretty good.

Very nice work. I happen to have three johnsons on my list of restoration. I'm about half way done with a 1941 HD-20 now.

My father-in-law had an identical motor that was locked up but still had some patches of original paint. I had the body shop scan it and I think it came out pretty close. I can get the paint code if anyone is interested.

Yea, nymarine.ca specializes in paint for these antiques, plus they have pictures of restored outboards for your pleasure. The paint isn't cheap, but it's worth the expense, if you want a true restoration job.

They were on the motor when I got it. Got an extra set if anybody is interested.

That's really a nice job. I have to Johnson's from the 50's that could use repainting. If you don't mind me asking, and forgive me I am new to restoration, did you take it apart and paint each piece individually or does OMC paint come in cans that you were able to paint it while it was all together?

I had the original paint scanned and had O'reilys mix it up and put in a spray can. That's what I used on the lower unit. I had my body shop do the hood with decals I got from http://www.americanoutboard.com/. I cleared about two coats on the lower.
