1956 7.5 Fleetwin Overheating

Took it out the other day and ran fine for about 45 min then it just stopped pissin water and started to over heat. It is a short shaft and I need one longer so I thought that maybe it just wasnt in the water far enough, but now when I run it at home it still wont ****. Any help would be appricated.

When was the impeller last changed?

You will need to drop your lower unit and inspect the water pump. If you arent sure when the impeller was last changed, Im sure it has disintegrated. That is not good. But you wont know for sure until you do some investigating. Do you have a manual?

Before you ask, you have to first remove the powerhead to disconnect the shift rod. Then you can unbolt and remove the lower unit to access the water pump. If the aluminum pump housing is worn, order a complete new water pump kit. It will be different than the old one so don't freak out when you see it. Also order a new 304314 powerhead gasket and a 303355 seal plate gasket and a 303347 o-ring. You'll see where they go when you get in there.

And make sure the LU is FULLY under water when you're testing it.

And don't forget to screw the bolt back on top of the shift shaft before bolting the thing back together..Don't ask me how i know..That's a nice easy motor to work on.. I love mine.
