Hi...this should be easy for the experts. I bought a 1956 Evinrude 15. I was looking through the parts on iBoats and didn't see a lower unit seal kit for it. My question is will the seal kits for the newer [like 1960] 18s work, or do I need to hunt up each seal individually? Thanks

The problem and reason for no seal kit is the prop shaft seal. Sierra does not carry that one, therefor no seal kit. Option is to buy individual seals from a dealer. Now, there is a possible disclaimer: IF the prop shaft bearing housing has been replaced with an 18hp one, it will use the newer seal and the kit will fit.

Thanks for that....Maybe I'll get an 18 propshaft bearing so this will be resolved permanently. Would you say the '56s are more trouble than they're worth as far as parts availability goes? All my others are '57 or newer so I've not had this issue before.

You could change the bearing, but they are expensive. But High Trim has the seals so go that way. It'll probably go another 50 years or so.
