1956 Evinrude 15 HP LU Oil Recommendations

I have a 1956 15 HP (15016) Evinrude and am looking for recommendations on LU oil, both conventional and synthetic. Does anyone have specs on what it should be, and/or recommendations? Thanks, Rick

Walmart oil is just fine for your unit. I assume you change it every fall so don't bother with the expensive stuff.

Nothing special. The standard marine grade 90W oil you find everywhere is fine.

Thanks Guys. You must camp out on this board all day to get answers that fast. I am changing the LU oil today, just picked up the motor in the fall, and ran it once last year. I wanted to check to see the condition of the oil, it looks good but the change is needed. Rick

Keep an eye on the lower unit seals. Most from that era leak a bit.

Thanks, That's what I've read. Also one of the reasons I wanted to check the LU oil. The motor has been sitting in someone's basement for 25+ years. I did a water pump last year before I ran it, and points, condensors, coils and added a kill switch this winter. Now all I am waiting for is warm weather. It is beautifully sunny, and has been, but too cold for my liking at this time of year. I am sick of cold weather, as I am sure all of us northeners are. Rick

Yeah me too Rick. I thought global warming was supposed to have us at 75 degree winters in upstate NY by now??

I'm all for pumping out the green house gases. I LIKE global warming. Before long, Buffalo will be oceanfront property and my house will be worth 20X what it is now. Rick
