I would appreciate help with how to remove the lower unit on my 1956 Evinrude 7.5 hp model 7520? The shift rod appears to be one piece construction with no upper and lower half to seperate. Where do you disconnect it so the lower unit can be removed?

Unfortunately you have to remove the powerhead to drop the gearcase on that model. In the middle of that same motor as well as we speak. Be sure to replace the base gasket when re installing. It is actually not that hard to do, just look for the bolts beneath the lower cowl.

Replace the 303355 gasket and 303347 o-ring also. They are part of the carbon seal assembly. It is vitally important that seal be 100%. Failure will admit water to the crankcase and destroy the bearings.

Thanks very much F_R,
I made a note of the gasket and o-ring and will replace new when I re-assemble.
