Today I came across a really nice 1956 Johnson QD-17 that had been stored for years. After removing the flywheel I found that the previous owner took the coils out and put the screws in a bag. Does the long screw go in the hole closer to the crank or does it go in the outside hole?. And I did a compression test and #1 was 140lbs and #2 had 120lbs. Is that normal?

Thanks

Yes then holes on either end use the short screws, make sure you line up the coils properly on the mounts--Bob

Are the screws supposed to go thru the holes on the brass plate under the stator plate?.

Thanks

No, they go into an aluminum ring with 4 screw holes in it that is held captive by the brass plate under the stator plate. (And there are two other phillips screws that hold the aluminum ring on.) This allows the stator plate to turn about 90° around the crankshaft's center.

I was recently given a Johnson 10 horse. I was wondering what is the gas to oil mixture on it. It has a five gallon tank.

Welcome aboard.

First, you should start a new thread and post the year or model number of the motor. That way someone can help you with the proper fuel mix.
