Hey guys , me again . Where do you measure to get the shaft length ? I measured from the cavitation plate to the bottom of the engine pan and got roughly 21" . Is this a long shaft , and if so does any of you know where I can get a short shaft? As always , thanks . Jeff

Measure from the anti-ventilation plate to the inside top of transom bracket.

Measure from anti cavitation plate to the part
of the mounting clamp that rests on the top of the transom. Short shaft approx. 15 inches
long shaft approx 20 inches. On these motors it is easy to spot a long shaft there is a 5 inch
extention very obvious in the lower part of the
leg.

My Johnson 28 also measures 18" here, but is listed as 15" shaft. I *think* it is to make sure the unsealed plate covering the water passage on the side just above the cavitation plate stays submerged. Does anyone know if there is a problem raising this engine 2-3"? What if you seal the plate?

I'm coming up w/ 18 1/2 " but I do have the 5" extention your talking about . Does anyone have a short shaft set-up they want to get rid of ? Thanks , Jeff
