I bought a qd-17 off e-bay for what I thought was a good deal but I see that the top spark plug hole threads are gone. I know its best to get another head, but if I cant get one is it ok to put in a helicoil? the manual advises against it, and Ive been looking around for another one, but I was wondering why they advise against doing that?

Helicoil works just fine.---Rule # 1 loosen plug with a wrench and take it out with fingers.---Install with fingers and snug up with a wrench.

thanks racerone, , I cut the threads for the helicoil a little while ago, and that lip, collar that sticks into the cyl. a little bit in the inside of the head is looking pretty thin, but I'm thinking once the helicoil is in and the locktite is on it will probably handle the heat ok, I know you have a lot of expirence at this so I feel a lot better
