1957 12 hp sea king

hi i have a 1957 12 hp sea king engine and i replaced the coils points and plugs and rebuilt the fuel pump in it. When i run it it will run great for a couple min then shut 0ff . i put fresh gas in it i mixed it 50:1. Does any one have any idea why it keeps shutting off ?

That is not enough oil!! It originally called for 16:1, but that was changed to 24:1. You will find a connecting rod sticking through the case if you don't give it enough oil. That motor has aluminum rods with silver plating. The thin silver plating is the only bearing.

So, how did you rebuild the fuel pump? The 1957 pump is highly obsolete and no parts are available for it. But maybe it has a more modern replacement pump on it?? See if it will keep going if you squeeze the primer bulb. That would indicate a bad fuel pump or it is sucking air from a leak somewhere between the pump and fuel level in the gas tank.

i found a rebuild kit last year from lainsoutboards for the fuil pump every thing looked the same just not dry roted i will try running it 24:1 and see if that works thank you if you can think of anything else let me know
