Do I put my 1957 25 H.P. Gale on this boat or a 55 H 4 cylinder Mercury ? I only want to cruise the boat not race it ........Would the 25 Gale be enough with two people to cruise?

IMO, the 25hp will be a great cruising outboard for a vintage 14ft Crestliner, for an aluminum or fiberglass, runabout or open fishing boat.

Pix would be great.

If it's an open bench seat style aluminum, 25hp will be plenty. I would think it would be plenty for 'glass too, as jb said.... I ran a 18hp on an open aluminum fishing and it had plenty of power.

We love pix tho...... :)

Thank's Guy's The Gale work's great I thought it wood be a good match, The boat is pretty light and I wouldn't have much for gear. It will be a fun little project I am just getting all the pieces together before I start...After that it'll just be something to putt around in and have fun ! I downloaded my Pic's of the boat and motor to photobucket I am still try to get them downloaded so you can take a looksy.

I had a 61 Gale 25 on a 15 ft Lonestar circa 1976 it did great Including skiing with a 100 lb adult spotter.
Believe it or not it did better on a 18' bare bones Crestliner utility. It would plane with 6 adults.
When I was 14 I had a new Crestliner 14 ft utility with a new 10 Johnson. It did really well with the 10.

I believe boat and trailer came as a pair But it also looks like someone got busy with the welder off the farm, This Gale I picked up from a guy who said they were steering the boat by hanging on to it ! either way it will be fun to mess around with. I came up with 1957 for the boat and motor but I don't know what model the boat is ? It measures out around 14'9"
EDIT: your attached pix were tiny little specks, not sure what happened, but here are some of your pix from your PB acct:

There is a Retro Crestliner site With all kinds of information.catalogs classifieds etc.
I have a 57 18' Bucaneer utility purchased from a neighbor a few years ago. I rode in it when it was new.
The model number on the Gale should be on the front of the mount bracket.
As you may know the Gale shares most of its components with Evinruide/Johnson motors.

Thank's Steelespike I'll check the Retro Crestliner site. The Motor model is GG9022B and Ser# is 65X641891 Made for Montgomery Ward's ....I'am guessing a 1956 from what I can tell. I think riding in that Bucaneer brought back some great memories for you ! Is the original motor still on your 18'er or did you repower it with something different?

I have a '57 18hp tiller that has been run on a 14' Lone Star, 23 mph was the top speed. If you are just looking to cruise the 25 should work great.

Your motor is indeed a 56 25 hp.
The Bucaneer came with a 57 35 hp Johnson tiller electric start.
The original owner swapped it out for a new 65 Merc 500 50 hp.
I'm thinking seriously to go back to the 35 just for that original look.
In my youth we had a big 15 ft deluxe kit boat runabout with a new 61 Evinrude 18
tiller. Typical speed was about 23/24 but on rare occasions it showed an indicated 26 mph.
The 61 18 hp was rated for a max of 27 mph.
I usually ran it with the cover off and the silencer cover off.
Being a teen at the time I figured it had to do better with all that fresh air.

Thank's Guy's it sound's like the 25 hp will be plenty,It'll be a kick just to run the boat around and bring back memories for some who had a connection to I really like to save these boat's and drive them awhile and pass them on to someone who will enjoy them and get some use out of them. It's like a boat rescue to say the least. The only boat I just can't seem to pass on is a 64 Starchief I've had for a few year's, as it's really is nice to camp and fish out of and the best part is you just don't have a cookie cutter boat like everyone else. Thank's for all the input and the stories ....I look foward to finishing this boat, running it here in the Northwest and passing it on! When I getter done I'll post some picture's Thank's again
