Hi,
I just bought a 1964 boat with a 1957 18hp Evinrude. My question is can some one send me a wiring diagram or send me info on how I can hook the wires up so I can start this motor. Here’s the info: The motor has a connector with four wires coming out; large red wire, large black wire (I think the red & black large wires are coming from the starter), then there is a red/black wire, and finally there is a smaller black wire. I have a solenoid (next to motor area); I have a choke button, voltmeter, & key starter switch (all next to steering wheel). No wires are going to any of these devices. The solenoid has two large bolts on the sides and two smaller bolts on the front. The choke button has two connections on the back. The key starter switch has four connectors on the back. The voltmeter has only two connectors on the back, this sits between the choke button & the starter switch. I hope this is enough info! Thank you in advance for your expertise.

Sonny

Sonny, You really need to get a manual.
Try the library,The tab at the top of the page,
Amazon.com,NAPA,Ebay,etc.
I have a Merc and an Evinrude bought manuals for both and havent had to make a repair yet.
Sounds like Im passing the buck but when you get one youll say why didnt I do this before?!
Keep in mind on an outboard when the key is off the switch is actually closed and when it is on it is open.If you unplug the connector you can crank the motor by hand and it will run.
Good luck.
