Hey guys,
I've got a 1957 18hp fastwin and I'm about to get it ready for the water. What I need is a little info on it like the spark plug setting, points settings, and any othe r information that you guys might think I need to know. I've found some info using the search but not very much for this specific motor.
Here are the numbers: 15020-19224 from the plug on the side of the motor/
Thanks

Points gap should be marked on the flywheel. I believe its .020

.020" max is correct for the points setting. It's not much use though without the flywheel nut torque (42 ft/lbs) unless your flywheel has the points window.
Spark plug should be a Champion J4C gapped at .030". Fuel/oil mix is 24:1. The water pump impeller should be changed out if it wasn't done in recent memory. The procedure is detailed in a service manual. Synchronization of the carburetor and spark advance should be checked, and that's in the service manual too.

Do they make a set of muff's ( the clamp on water supply) that will work on this motor and if they do where can I get one?

They used to, now they're hard to find. They fit on the water intake/exhaust 'tail' that sticks down behind the propeller. Tempo 916TFC I think was the last one. You could check with your local outboard too, they might have one.
Personally, I just fill up a barrel of water. Works well since you can put the engine in gear & test it a bit under load.
