I'm replacing my head gasket after pulling the cylinder head to repair a cross threaded spark plug hole.
I see so many different opinions on not using a gasket sealant or just using 2cycle oil to lube it up before installing.

Should I use a gasket sealant or just some 2 cycle oil to lube up gasket before torquing it down?
Will Lock-tite blue be sufficient for the threads on the bolts?

Any other recommendations to get this done correct the first time? Only thing I'm afraid of is the 2 bottom bolts are hard to get to and scared I wont get them torqued down enough.

Look closely at the head gasket. If it says "use no sealer" on it, don't. If that is not on the head gasket, use OMC gasket sealing compound or Permatex # 3. You should not use anything on the head bolts. Just make sure all the threads are clean.

That lower rear cowl (pan) is easy to remove if you want easy access to the head bolts.

Thanks F-R, I thought I might have to remove the whole block, I'm going to look into removing it. Really appreciate the input!

Well the head gasket is Sierra 18-2951, It has a big E printed on it. It's does not say to apply Sealant or not to, anyone ever installed this gasket dry and had any problems. I can't Find Permatex # 3 at auto store. Just Hi-Tac gasket maker, Non Aviation.

I'm itching to get it installed and back on the water.
